Don Berto is the chef-owner of Port-au-Prince Haitian Cuisine in Silver Spring, MD. His passion for authentic Haitian food, art and music are on rich display in his restaurant, which features curated art on the walls, a live world music series, jazz on Tuesdays, poetry, DJs, creole classes and of course excellent Haitian food. Don Berto has created a much needed community space, a port where any ship is welcome.

We chatted about how he became passionate about food, about his vision for a cosmopolitan gathering spot and plans for building on the success of his first restaurant with larger, more diverse events.
