DC Highlife Stars brings together some of the best musicians on the DC African scene for live performances of classic highlife, rumba, afrobeat, funk, reggae and other styles, mixed with originals and tunes from the new generation of afrobeats artists.
Bandleaders Michael and Eme (Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band & Eme and Heteru, respectively) have assembled a rotating crew of world-class musicians working in the DC area. The party they create is infectious! Whether in an intimate acoustic setting or with a full band for clubs or festivals, a joyful vibe is always front-and-center. This is dance music!
DC Highlife Stars is a veritable jukebox of funky music from greats like Bobby Benson, Rex Lawson, Sam Mangwana, Fela Kuti, Flavour, Tekno, Bob Marley, The Funkees, Sweet Breeze, Joseph Kabasele and plenty more.
