Had a great visit from DC reggae artist Christos DC this week, including a sneak peak at his upcoming album “Tessera” and two live-in-the-studio performances of original songs “Vasilikos” [10:30] & “Speak the Fire” [23:50], with Cameroonian guitarist Henri Tanash sitting in. Christos was born in DC and raised by two opera singer parents, so his path to prominence on the DC music scene started early and was steeped in his roots and heritage as a Greek-American. But it was his deep appreciation for the sounds of Kingston, Jamaica that brought Christos’ music and career to life. He has recorded and toured with some all-time reggae greats including Sly & Robbie, The Firehouse Crew, The Itals, Sugar Minot, Augustus Pablo and Don Carlos, original lead singer of Black Uhuru. Christos is also founder of Honest Music, a record label dedicated to artists pursuing their own voice in their own time. In addition to his own releases (“Tessera” will be his fourth), Honest Music also produces killer DC reggae sets from the likes of Kenyatta Hill and Puma Ptah. Check out the websites below for more info on Christos’ album release (July 28th!) and upcoming shows in your area, and definitely peep the video for “Speak the Fire” filmed in Goa, India. The story of how that came together is in the interview…enjoy!
